I just discovered the Driveway through Mellow Johnny's website link

I am just getting back to training after being off the bike for a year with a broken foot.

I want to ask what would be best for an unlicensed rider to get started on Thursday nights? I would like to come out, pay the required fee, and maybe just ride the course at the 4:30-5:25 practice time, then progress to the beginner licensed class later on (CAT5?)

What does everybody suggest?

Depending on your level of fitness I would do just as you suggested, go out and ride the course from 4:30 - 5:30 then jumping in the 4/5 race at 6:10... Have you done any crit racing before??

The long course will be used today so don't worry to much about the crit skills as it'll be more like a road race. Have fun.

No previous criterium racing experience, plenty of long distance training, but I learn quick. The first couple of times I will stay at the back of the pack and see if I can keep up!

I went out tonight and watched, and it looks like a great time!

I gotta finish getting the bike in shape, then get myself back in shape (I live right on the NW Austin training route, so I just gotta get out there and get back into shape).....then I will set up my CAT5 license and come out and give it try!

Thanks!!
